Manual Renewal for Subscriptions: Making it Easy and Convenient

When it comes to subscription renewals, occasional failures can happen due to various reasons such as insufficient funds or expired cards. In such cases, the order status is typically set to “On hold.” But worry not, our team has devised a simple and efficient solution to process and retry these “On Hold” renewal payments on behalf of customers.

How to Process the Renewal (For Merchant/Shop Workers)

If you, as a merchant or shop worker, come across a failed renewal order, you can reach out to the customer and check if they have sufficient funds to complete the renewal. To provide them with utmost convenience, you have the ability to process the renewal directly from the site’s dashboard on their behalf. Here’s how:

  1. Log in to the WordPress dashboard and navigate to WooCommerce >> Subscriptions.
  2. Locate the order with the failed or “On hold” renewal status.
  3. Change the subscription status from “On hold” to “Active” and click on “Update.”
  4. Once the order is updated, you’ll find the “Process Renewal” option in the Subscription Actions field. Click on “Update” again to complete the renewal process for that order.

How to Process the Renewal (For Customers)

If there are any necessary actions the customer needs to take before proceeding with the renewal, such as changing their payment card, you can assist them in activating it. Notify them about the reactivation and inform them that they can proceed with the payment from their account’s page. Follow these steps:

  1. Access the WordPress dashboard and go to WooCommerce >> Subscriptions.
  2. Select the order with the failed or “On hold” renewal status.
  3. Change the subscription status from “On hold” to “Active” and click on “Update.”
  4. After updating the order, a related renewal order will be generated under the customer’s account page labelled “My Subscription.”
  5. The customer can proceed with the payment by clicking the “Renew now” button on their account’s page.
  6. They will then be redirected to the checkout page on your site to complete the payment.
