Development Domains for License Activation

Our licenses are designed with flexibility in mind, allowing you to use them on staging or development domains without counting towards your site activations limit. To qualify, your domain name must be one of the permitted TLDs or Subdomains listed below.

Permitted TLDs for Dev or Staging Domains

  • *.dev
  • *.test
  • *.local
  • *.staging
  • *.example
  • *.invalid
  • *.myftpupload.com (GoDaddy)
  • *.cloudwaysapps.com (Cloudways)
  • *.ngrok.io (tunneling)

Permitted Subdomains for Dev or Staging Domains

  • local.*
  • dev.*
  • test.*
  • staging.*
  • stagingN.* (SiteGround; N is an unsigned integer)
  • *.staging.wpengine.com (WP Engine)
  • dev-*.pantheonsite.io (Pantheon)
  • test-*.pantheonsite.io (Pantheon)
  • staging-*.kinsta.com (Kinsta)

Localhost Domains

If your domain is localhost (with any port), it will also be treated as a localhost domain and not count towards your activation limit.

By using one of these permitted domain formats, you can ensure your staging or development environments don’t impact your license activations while working on your projects.
